Airlines issue latest travel advisory for passengers

Several airlines have advised passengers to arrive at least three hours before departure to accommodate enhanced security checks.

In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, major Indian carriers, including Air India, Akasa Air, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, have issued travel advisories urging passengers to arrive at airports at least three hours prior to departure. The move comes in response to heightened security measures mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). These measures aim to ensure passenger safety and maintain operational readiness.

Air India issued an advisory stating, “In view of an order by the BCAS on enhanced measures at airports, passengers across India are advised to arrive at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 mins before departure.”

In accordance of the above, Akasa Air also stated, “Due to enhanced security measures at all airports across India, we request you to reach the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure, to ensure a seamless check-in and boarding experience. Please ensure you carry valid government approved photo identification documents for entry to the airport. In addition to your check-in baggage, only 1 hand bag weighing upto 7 kgs will be permitted. As per regulatory guidelines, all passengers will be required to undergo secondary security checks prior to boarding."

SpiceJet also stated, “In compliance with a directive from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security regarding enhanced security measures, all passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to the scheduled departure. Check-in counters will close 75 minutes before departure.”

“In these extraordinary times, heightened security measures are being implemented across all airports. We request you to allow extra time for your journey to accommodate security checks and formalities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” stated IndiGo.

In the meantime, airports are also implementing enhanced safety measures and issuing advisories to ensure passenger security and a smooth travel experience.

Indira Gandhi International Airport issued passenger advisory stating, “Delhi Airport operations remain normal. However, due to evolving airspace conditions and heightened security measures, some flight schedules and security processing timings maybe impacted.” The authority also urges everyone to rely only on official sources for accurate information and avoid sharing unverified content.

‘AAI Jodhpur Airport’ also stated that all civilian flights at Jodhpur Airport are suspended until 9th May or until further notice, and advised travellers to plan their journeys accordingly.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport advised, “Due to enhanced security protocols, passengers may experience longer wait times at the airport. We recommend planning your travel to ensure early arrival.”
