Discover the Hidden Heart of India: The Untamed Hadoti Region

An authored article from the lens of Arun Srivastava, Joint Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. “Hadoti is more than a destination, it is a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting to be discovered,” he recalls.

Where can you find the world’s best sightings of the Sloth Bear, the prehistoric Gharial, and the playful Smooth-Coated Otter all in one journey? Where can you stroll along a riverfront that rivals the finest in the world?

Welcome to Hadoti, a breathtaking region in Southeastern Rajasthan bordering Western Madhya Pradesh. Encompassing the historic districts of Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, and Baran, Hadoti is a vibrant tapestry of rugged wildlife, royal heritage, and exquisite art. For the traveller seeking a fresh, unexplored path away from the usual tourist crowds, my recent journey here was a true revelation. Journey from Delhi could be very smooth and quick and comfortable by number of fast trains, and equally pleasant through Delhi-Mumbai Express way.

  • The Architectural Marvel of Kota: Experience the Chambal Riverfront, a world-class urban wonder in the heart of Kota. As a traffic-signal-free city of 1.5 million people, Kota offers a seamless blend of modernity and tradition. The riverfront’s stunning night-time illumination transforms the landscape into a glowing masterpiece.

  • The Wild Chambal Safari: Take an exhilarating boat safari on the Chambal River. It is perhaps the best place on Earth to see the critically endangered Gharial and Smooth-Coated Otters thriving in their natural habitat.

Heritage Stays: To truly feel the pulse of the region, stay at the Umed Bhawan Palace in Kota. Its regal architecture and hospitality turn a simple holiday into a royal retreat.

It was a treat to see how various roundabouts and squares in the city have been turned into tourist sites.  It was heartening that the people of the region, especially the tourism fraternity i.e Tour Operators, Hoteliers, Event Managers, City Administration, Travel Agents, Guides, Forest Guides are upbeat about the tourism and working tirelessly to make region a premier tourist attraction in the country.

Hadoti is more than a destination, it is a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting to be discovered in the heart of India.
