Aquaterra Adventures reports surge in solo Adventure Travel among women in their 50s

Top rated adventure destinations for solo women, according to the report, are Dolomites, Aconcagua, Mont Blanc circuit, Kilimanjaro, and Manaslu circuit.
Aquaterra Adventures Report studied responses from women travellers on their growing affinity toward the outdoors. The qualitative study reveals that women between 45 and 55 years of age are most travelling solo in India. These women adventurers travel solo by joining a group, or with other women friends for companionship and to meet like-minded people.
The report findings reveal that most women in their 50’s have higher disposable income and have reduced burden of family and kids and hence tend to leave their families and travel solo or with a girlfriend. Their main goal is to explore life on their own terms and feel liberated. In their 50’s women are more about embracing self-expression and autonomy. Female-focused travel helps women build resilience, adaptability and independence.
Commenting on the study, Vaibhav Kala, Founder Aquaterra Adventures India Pvt Ltd, and outdoor travel stalwart stated, “Over the last 30 years in Adventure travel 50% are women solo travellers seeking the outdoors to feel liberated. At this age most of them have completed their family duties with children out of school, they feel the need to explore and get out of their comfort zones. Safety is their biggest concern as is traveling with like-minded people. Most of them discover their feminine power and build friends for life on such trips. We get a lot of women coming to clear their minds in the outdoors if they are separated or looking to separate from their spouses. They say it helps bring clarity of thought and confidence to stand up for themselves”. He added “Also, adventure travel is deemed to be a safer form of self-expression, with travel in safe environments, with small groups, experienced leaders trained in wilderness safety, first aid, yet exposing oneself to experiences beyond traditional boundaries of conventional travel”.
Top rated adventure destinations for solo women include the Dolomites in Italy, Aconcagua in Argentina, Mont Blanc circuit in France/ Italy/ Switzerland, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Manaslu circuit in Nepal. Interest for learning skills like kayaking is also seeing a rise, and high adrenaline expeditions on the Tons, Zanskar, Siang and Subansari increases each year. Getting out of their comfort zones, pushing personal boundaries seems to be the common hallmark of these choices.
