Couples drive nearly 40% of hotel bookings over Republic Day weekend: RateGain

Domestically, destinations including Goa, Jaipur, Kochi, Udaipur, Varanasi and Varkala, other than major metro cities, attracted strong booking momentum, driven by demand for a blend of leisure, culture, and experiential tourism.

India’s Republic Day long weekend reflects a clear shift in travel behaviour, with couples emerging as the single largest booking segment, accounting for nearly 40% of all hotel bookings, according to data from Adara, a RateGain company.

The analysis is based on bookings made between October 1 and December 31, 2025, for travel during the Republic Day long weekend, highlighting how festive breaks are increasingly being used for short, shared leisure getaways rather than solo trips.

Couples accounted for 39% of total bookings, followed closely by families at 37%, while solo travelers made up 24%. The data points to a growing preference for experience-led travel focused on togetherness, comfort, and convenience.

This shift is unfolding against a backdrop of strong growth across both domestic and inbound travel. Domestic hotel bookings recorded a 30% year-on-year increase. On the international front, destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok, Muscat, Hoi An and Pattaya saw increased interest, reinforcing the popularity of short-haul international travel for long weekends.

Taken together, the Republic Day long weekend data signals a broader recalibration of travel priorities. Long weekends are no longer just about time off; they are becoming opportunities for meaningful, well-planned escapes, with couples and families firmly at the center of this evolving travel narrative.
