The Delhi government is set to introduce a sustainable and scenic mode of transport with the launch of a ferry and cruise service along a 7-8 km stretch of the Yamuna River. The initiative aims to promote eco-friendly tourism while revitalising the river.
As per an official notice, the cruise service will operate between Sonia Vihar (Wazirabad Barrage) and Jagatpur (Shani Temple), offering a round-trip journey of 7-8 km. The fleet will comprise electric-solar hybrid boats with a capacity of 20-30 passengers per vessel. Designed for passenger comfort and safety, the boats will feature air-conditioned cabins, bio-toilets, life jackets, and advanced safety measures.
The service will run four round trips daily, providing a unique experience of Delhi’s riverfront while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
As per the official update, The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) has also issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting bidders to operate the ferry and cruise services. Interested parties must submit pre-qualification, technical, and financial proposals via the e-procurement system of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) for a five-year operational period, the issued RFP said.
