CSIA’S NEW T2 OPENS FOR INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS

The new integrated Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), Mumbai officially commenced all international operations today with the new Terminal 2 opening. The transition of all international flights from the existing terminal to the new integrated Terminal 2 began with the arrival of the Air India flight from Singapore AI343 scheduled at 1300 hours.
The first departing flight from T2 was the Jet Airways 9W 118 to London, Heathrow at 1320 hours, for which check in counters opened at 0920 hours allowing passengers to begin check-in. GVK MIAL’s Executive Chairman Dr GVK Reddy and Managing Director G V Sanjay Reddy welcomed the passengers of the first departing international flight at the terminal’s check-in hall. To celebrate the first day of its operations, GVK MIAL team presented these passengers with goodie bags. Permanent baggage tags specially created for the occasion saying ‘First to experience T2’ are distributed to all passengers.
Similarly, the first arriving Air India flight from Singapore to CSIA’s Terminal 2 landed to a water gun salute followed by a traditional Indian welcome to the passengers with a welcome tikka and a rose bud. The immigration, customs and CISF teams also participated actively to welcome the first passengers. After clearing immigration and Customs, they were greeted at the Arrival lounge with traditional Maharastrian music. The GVK MIAL team presented them a goodie bag to all arriving guests of the flight.
All international passengers travelling by chauffer driven cars or taxis can access Terminal 2 Departures at Level 4 through the Sahar elevated access road. The Sahar elevated access road, which can be accessed by all private vehicles, taxis and special coaches is a dedicated corridor for passengers to reach Terminal 2. For passengers coming from Central Mumbai, the Up ramp of the elevated road near Ambassador Flight Kitchen can be used to access T2, while the Down ramp enables traffic to exit T2.
To make the passenger experience even more special, GVK CSIA has launched a unique social media campaign called #WelcomeToT2. A Facebook application has been created where users can log in and send a welcome message to passengers. They can use twitter and send in their tweets using the #WelcomeToT2 or use the message board on the app to send their wishes / pictures / messages. Since the launch of this campaign on 6th Feb 2014, GVK CSIA has received over 700 welcome messages from people across the city. Welcome messages also poured in from the residents beyond Mumbai signifying Terminal 2 as a true icon for India. These welcome messages were showcased on FID screens and goodie bags across Terminal 2.
To ensure that the passengers go ahead and click the picturesque T2 Mumbai, GVK CSIA has also launched an Instagram campaign called #IAmT2Mumbai. Passengers can click the T2 in an artistic way and upload it on Instagram with the #IamAtT2Mumbai.
