CSIA’S NEW TERMINAL GETS LEEDS GOLD CERTIFICATION

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) has awarded Gold certificate for Terminal 2 at Mumbai International Airport. The LEED Gold certification acknowledges T2's environmentally sustainable profile.
This LEED Gold certification for the new integrated terminal has been granted basis fulfilment of various parameters across the terminal’s facilities including: T2’s water efficiency in Air-conditioning system ensures that more than 65% of the STP treated water volume is derived from the domestic water tank of Aircrafts landing at the airport. Moreover, water use reduction is pegged at 42.58 % through grey water reuse of 19,28,666 gallons/year and through use of efficient plumbing fixtures such as low flow urinal, low flow faucets & low flow health faucet. Also, a minimum 50% of the wood-based materials & products used for the wood building components T2 are certified in accordance with FSC principles & criteria and the Terminal building is declared as a non-smoking zone.

The new state-of-the-art ‘Green’ Terminal 2 at CSIA is the most ambitious project embarked by GVK. Terminal 2 is built to be known as an iconic landmark, which will not only become the pride of Mumbai City but also act as a gateway to the financial capital of India. GVK understands that to be the best in the world they have to go beyond ordinary approaches and adopt unconventional and alternative thinking. . Hence, one of the highest priorities for GVK during the planning and implementation of Terminal 2 was safeguarding the environment and conform to the international norms of sustainable development.
