Delta introduces nonstop Mumbai to New York-JFK service

Delta Air Lines is just days away from starting its flight between Mumbai and New York-JFK. The service, set to begin on Tuesday December 24, 2019, will be the only nonstop flight between the two hubs and will offer a wide range of onward connections to destinations across the United States.

The start of this new flight will fill a missing piece of Delta’s network connecting India and the United States. The airline has scheduled its newly renovated Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on the route, featuring Delta’s most modern interior including the Delta One Suite – an all-suite business class cabin – as well as the premium economy offering Delta Premium Select, plus Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin. The 777 has some of the widest seats in the industry across every cabin, making for a more comfortable experience, as well as more space and legroom for those sitting in Delta Premium Select and Comfort+.

In addition to the seats, here are some other features customers can expect when they step onboard the Delta flight: A choice of meal options, including local veg and non-veg favourites from the East and West, plus Mukhwas and Masala chai tea.

More than 15 Bollywood films, available on-demand via the complimentary seatback entertainment system. There is also a host of Hollywood titles plus popular TV series, music and games; Amenity kits for all, including eyeshades and blankets making for a more comfortable journey

Stay in touch with friends and family at 30,000 feet thanks to free mobile messaging via iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. There’s also optional paid-for access to high-speed Wi-Fi, so customers can keep on top of work emails; Customers in the Delta One cabin enjoy a private space accessed by a sliding door with personal stowage areas and a fully-flat bed, can order their meal in advance of their flight and enjoy a freshly made espresso in the sky

Jimmy Eichelgruen, Director Sales Africa, Middle East and India, Delta said, “Delta’s return to India will ensure that Mumbai is even better connected to the United States, offering our customers the latest innovations and newest on-board cabins and service enhancements. There is a great deal of travel between Mumbai and New York and with New York City itself also containing the highest Indian American population in North America, it’s never been easier to travel between these two cities for work, leisure or to visit family.”

Almost 1.4 million Americans visited India in 2017, accounting for nearly 14 per cent of India’s foreign tourist arrivals, according to data from the Indian Government. The United States is now the second largest source market for India tourism. Meanwhile, in 2018, there were approximately 1.38 million overseas visitors from India to the United States, making it the tenth highest visiting nation. India was also third in terms of growth rate at 7.2 per cent for the year, according to U.S. Government data.

As Delta’s largest trans-Atlantic hub, New York-JFK offers more than 50 convenient onward connections throughout North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, including Atlanta, Toronto, Boston, San Francisco and Tampa. With some of these cities home to universities popular with Indian students, the Delta flight makes it easy to travel home from college for the holidays. Plus, with a checked baggage allowance starting at two bags per person, customers can pack all they need for the next term. All customers can earn miles via Delta’s loyalty program, SkyMiles, which can be redeemed toward future travel.

This new service between Mumbai and New York will also be important for cargo customers and freight forwarders with the aircraft being able to carry up to 12 tons of cargo per flight. The timing of the service into New York-JFK also ensures that the main freight products of pharmaceuticals, automobile parts and general cargo will be able to access Delta’s extensive domestic network.

Delta has grown its presence in New York City by over 65 percent in the last 10 years and today operates more than 500 peak-day departures from its hubs at LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport – including more than 200 daily departures from JFK, where Delta and its partners serve 43 international destinations in more than 30 countries.
