Goa records 28.5 lac visitors in Q1 2026

A key driver this quarter was the continued expansion of state’s MICE ecosystem.

Goa has begun 2026 on a steady footing, sustaining tourism volumes at near record levels despite increasing global pressures on travel. The State recorded approximately 28.5 lakh visitors between January and March, closely matching Q1 2025, the strongest first quarter in the state’s tourism history.

A key driver this quarter was the continued expansion of Goa’s MICE ecosystem. India Energy Week 2026 brought more than 75,000 delegates, over 700 exhibitors and participants from 120 plus countries, positioning Goa as a credible global host for large scale business events. The World Legends Pro T20 League further contributed to inflows, reinforcing the State’s emerging sports tourism segment. The seasonal calendar supported demand across regions. Festivals such as Goa Carnival and Shigmotsav were held across multiple locations, ensuring wider participation and sustained economic activity across local communities, small businesses and tourism operators.

Speaking about this, Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa said, “What is particularly encouraging is the quality of growth we are seeing. Large scale global events along with the continued rise of destination weddings and strong domestic travel demand are helping us build a more stable and value driven tourism ecosystem.’’

“This momentum also reflects a larger shift in how Goa is being experienced today, with travellers engaging more deeply with our cultural, event led and experiential offerings beyond the beaches, positioning the State as a year-round destination.”, he added.

Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, added, “Domestic connectivity has played a critical role in driving tourism this quarter. The expansion of direct flight routes linking Goa with cities across India has made the destination more accessible than ever, resulting in a significant surge in domestic visitor flows. This also supports our broader objective of ensuring consistent, year-round tourism growth, with domestic travel continuing to be a key pillar of Goa’s tourism ecosystem.”

The destination wedding segment remained a strong contributor to tourism value. January and February, aligned with India’s peak wedding season, saw consistent demand from domestic and diaspora markets. Recognised as the Best Destination for Resort Weddings at the 2025 Wed In India Awards, Goa continued to host large format celebrations across beach resorts and heritage properties. These events delivered high room occupancy along with strong revenues across food and beverage, banquets and local services.

Through January and February, visitor flows remained stable, maintaining the high base set last year. March saw a marginal decline, primarily influenced by international factors. Foreign arrivals were impacted by global developments including the ongoing conflict in the middle east, which has led to higher fuel costs and affected aviation economics.

Charter operations, now consolidated through Manohar International Airport in Mopa, saw some moderation in line with a broader global shift away from group travel. However, core markets including the United Kingdom, Russia and Kazakhstan continued to show steady demand.

Travel patterns are also shifting. There is a clear move towards more personalised and experience led travel, aligning with Goa’s focus on higher value tourism. The cruise segment is showing early signs of recovery, indicating renewed interest in alternative travel formats.
