The project will be implemented through a Public Private Partnership model to ensure professional management and quality facilities, while overall oversight will remain with the government.
After receiving Cabinet approval on December 2, the proposed International Wellness and Yoga Centre in Baghpat has now moved to the bidding stage. The Directorate of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, has invited proposals through a Request for Proposal for the design, finance, development and maintenance of the centre along with allied spiritual and wellness facilities.
The project is planned on 70.885 hectares of land in village Hariya Khurd (Pura Mahadev), tehsil Baghpat, and is envisioned as one of the largest dedicated yoga and wellness campuses in North India. The centre is being developed to meet the growing interest in holistic health, where people increasingly seek a balance of physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing and meditative practices in a calm, nature friendly environment.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the project reflects the state government’s intent to diversify tourism development and respond to emerging travel trends. He said that the global recognition of yoga, particularly after the widespread observance of International Yoga Day, has led to a steady rise in domestic and foreign visitors looking for authentic and well organised yoga destinations in India.
The centre will integrate yoga, meditation, naturopathy and wellbeing sciences, offering structured short term and residential programmes for visitors from India and abroad. Its proximity to Delhi NCR makes it easily accessible for wellness enthusiasts, students, corporates and working professionals seeking both short stays and longer wellness programmes.
The project will be implemented through a Public Private Partnership model to ensure professional management and quality facilities, while overall oversight will remain with the government. Beyond creating a new wellness destination, the centre is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities in and around Western Uttar Pradesh through demand for trainers, therapists, hospitality services, transport and local businesses, informed Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Amrit Abhijat.
