Mechukha named India’s best mountain tourism destination

Mechukha promoted for 'slow travel' and undergoing transformative development under 'Swadesh Darshan 2.0'.

Mechukha, a destination that is being developed under Ministry of Tourism's 'Swadesh Darshan 2.0' scheme, has come on top as India's best mountain tourism destination at the India Today Travel Awards. The award was presented to Adong Moyong and Marto Bagra of Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tourism at a function on March 28.

Pasang Dorjee Sona, State Tourism Minister said, "The Northeast is India's best kept secret, and Mechukha is a brand new destination that can create new paradigms in Arunachal Pradesh's tourism scenario. We are committed to ensuring that Mechukha develops into a sought-after destination for the discerning traveller".

The Minister also said that Mechukha is being promoted for 'slow travel', so that travellers spend more time at the destination enabling economic benefits to reach all segments of the community.

Liyi Bagra, Deputy Commissioner-Shi-Yomi District, informed that Mechukha is undergoing transformative development under 'Swadesh Darshan 2.0'. "I am confident that the upcoming redevelopment of Mechukha Adventure Park under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 will ensure nature lovers and adventure seekers experience Mechukha's landscape from unique vantage points. So also, will Mechukha Cultural Haat provide travellers with rich insights into the cultural traditions of the region. In Phase 2 we are developing an Artist's Village at Galling Village, thus opening yet another untouched area for experiential tourism. This recognition for Mechukha has come at the right time even as these upcoming projects will be ready to help travellers have a world class experience".

"I am thankful to the Ministry of Tourism for supporting a beautiful place like Mechukha to add to India's collection of amazing tourism destinations. The Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department has also played an equally stellar role in pushing sustainable developments at Mechukha" - he said.
