Suman Billa appointed as DG at Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India

Billa, the IAS officer from Kerala 1996 batch, is presently posted as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism.

The New Delhi establishment on Friday effected a major bureaucratic reshuffle at Additional Secretary-level posts. According to the DOPT circular, Suman Billa IAS has been appointed as DG, Ministry of Tourism Government of India. Billa, the IAS officer from Kerala 1996 batch, is presently posted as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism.

Billa has a distinguished career in public service, particularly in the tourism sector. He previously served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism from 2014 to 2019.  Following this, he joined the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in Madrid as Director of Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development. Upon returning to India, he held the position of Principal Secretary for Industries and NORKA in the Kerala government. Billa was reappointed as the Additional Secretary (AS), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in February 2024, succeeding Rakesh Verma. This marked his return to the Ministry after nearly five years.

According to the circular mentioning Billa’s repositioning, twenty-five officers were appointed as Additional Secretary while fifteen were in-situ elevated in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Govt of India.
