Tripura to introduce seaplane services for experience-driven tourism

The proposed seaplane routes will link iconic water destinations including Narikel Kunja, Chabimura, and Rudrasagar Lake. These aerial routes are designed to cut down travel time while offering a panorama of Tripura’s green landscapes. Talks are currently ongoing with a private aviation operator to assess feasibility and operational logistics.

Tripura is set to enhance its tourism sector by introducing seaplane services, aiming to improve regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth. This initiative is part of the state's broader strategy to leverage its natural landscapes and water bodies to attract more tourists. By integrating seaplane services, Tripura aims to position itself as an accessible destination in the northeast region of India.

More than just a tourist attraction, the seaplane service is expected to energise local economies by creating jobs, encouraging entrepreneurship, and increasing tourism-related revenue. Talks are currently ongoing with a private aviation operator to assess feasibility and operational logistics. The project will be developed in close coordination with state authorities to ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.

Announcing the project, State Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday at the Secretariat’s conference hall. The session, held via video conferencing with representatives of a private airline, focused on the logistics and operational roadmap for launching seaplane services in the state.

Minister underscored the game-changing potential of the initiative, stressing its importance in positioning Tripura as a leading destination for innovative and experience-driven tourism. He remarked that the introduction of seaplane tourism represents a bold leap forward—one that seamlessly combines modern infrastructure with Tripura’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
