In a bid to elevate the standard of tourism services across Uttar Pradesh, the Manyawar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management (MKITM), functioning under the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, is offering a structured and enriching Guide Training Programme for aspiring guides across the state. The course is part of MKITM’s suite of short-term training modules designed to professionally equip individuals looking to enter the tourism sector. Building on its ongoing efforts, the institute will soon commence training classes for guides based in Varanasi and Kannauj, expanding its reach to more destinations across the state.
The Guide Training Programme is conducted through online classes, while the final examination is held offline at the MKITM campus in Lucknow. Upon passing the examination, candidates are awarded a formal guide license along with a certificate of qualification from MKITM, enabling them to work as certified guides in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the officials, guide training sessions have already been successfully completed for batches from Naimisharanya, Ayodhya, and Agra, in addition to specialised circuit-based training for guides working in the Krishna-Braj Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, and Ramayana Circuit. New batches for Varanasi and Kannauj have recently commenced their training through online mode.
Trainees are provided with a comprehensive understanding of Uttar Pradesh’s broader tourism landscape and circuits. They are trained in guiding techniques, tourist etiquette, and personality development. Communication skills, including public speaking and self-presentation, form a key part of the curriculum. Emphasis is also placed on language proficiency, first aid training (including CPR), digital payments, and an introduction to ecological and environmental issues such as biodiversity, pollution, global warming, and the importance of preserving ecosystems.
Speaking on the topic, Jaiveer Singh, Minister of Tourism & Culture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, said, “Guides are the cultural ambassadors of our state. They introduce visitors to our history, heritage, and hospitality. Through the guide training programme at MKITM, we are nurturing a professional and informed cadre that not only represents Uttar Pradesh’s rich legacy but also significantly enhances the tourist experience. Our vision is to turn tourism into a source of livelihood and pride for our youth.”
