Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again reaffirmed its dominance in global aviation, retaining its title as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic in 2024 — a record-breaking 11th year. According to preliminary data released by Airports Council International (ACI) World, DXB welcomed 92.3 million international travellers in 2024, marking a 6.1% increase over the previous year.
Dubai’s airport, which also serves as the base for Emirates—the world’s largest international airline—outpaced major global competitors including London Heathrow, Seoul Incheon, Singapore Changi, and Amsterdam Schiphol.
ACI report also revealed that collectively, the world’s top 10 busiest airports accounted for 9% of global passenger traffic, handling 855 million travellers in 2024. This reflects an 8.8% rise from 2023 and an 8.4% increase over pre-pandemic levels in 2019, when they saw 789 million passengers.
Despite these gains, ACI—which represents 2,181 airports across 170 countries—issued a note of caution, projecting that while global air travel may reach 9.9 billion passengers by 2025, the pace of passenger growth is expected to moderate.
