GOA & DUBAI STILL TOP TRAVEL CHARTS: CLEARTRIP

A Cleartrip Insight on Year-end travel bookings for the last few weeks of December 2014 revealed that a significant 78 per cent Indians have planned their year-end travel almost 40-90 days in advance. This trend was noticed for both domestic as well as international bookings.

Year-end bookings crossed the 50 per cent mark on Cleartrip Mobile - a clear indication that Indian travellers are increasingly turning to mobile apps to make holiday bookings. While the average per person ticket for domestic year-end travel was pegged at around Rs. 4,600, the average per person International segment was priced at Rs. 11,560. Goa continued to rule the roost amongst domestic destinations and Dubai topped the chart amongst International destinations.

Subramanya Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Cleartrip stated, “At Cleartrip, we’ve seen an interesting trend around advance purchase patterns, for travel in December. The volume of customers who have booked more than 40-days out has nearly doubled this year. In our view, this is clearly reflective of the impact the numerous airline flash sales over the last couple of months, have had on buying behaviour. Again, mobile played a great contributor to advance purchases. Cleartrip has seen almost 50 per cent of bookings for year-end travel come from smartphones, by eager travellers who gave into their travel impulse due to the cheaper fares. Top destinations continue to stay predictable on both the international and domestic routes.”

Another interesting holiday trend for year-end travel showed that while solo travellers chose destinations such as Bangkok, couples were more in favour of Colombo and Kathmandu. Families of three and more are jet setting towards Singapore and Dubai.
