Taiwan’s Penghu International Fireworks Festival returns, ideal for Indian tourists

Indian travellers, seeking unique experiences as well as the tour operators, are being encouraged by Taiwan Tourism to explore Penghu and its upcoming Fireworks Festival. In 2024, the festival witnessed over 530,000 visitors and generated NT$3.7 billion in tourism revenue.

As Indian travellers seek destinations that offer authenticity, natural charm, and unforgettable experiences, Taiwan Tourism has introduced Penghu. Located in the Taiwan Strait, Penghu is a cluster of 90 islands and islets that weave together centuries-old culture, stunning geological formations, and vibrant marine life. The destination is now returning with the Penghu Fireworks Festival.

Started on a high note on May 5, the festival is already drawing global attention. In 2024, the festival witnessed over 530,000 visitors and generated NT$3.7 billion in tourism revenue. According to Taiwan Tourism, this year promises to be even more dazzling and attract more visitors.

“Penghu is where stories of wind and waves come alive. It’s a destination that balances peace with pulse – ideal for Indian tourists looking to move beyond the usual and explore the exceptional,” said Paul Shih, Director, TTA Singapore Office.

The Penghu Fireworks Festival, scheduled to take place from May 5 to July 29, 2025, at the scenic Guanyinting Recreation Area in Magong City. This annual celebration is a tribute to culture, connection, and the shared spirit of global travel, drawing both domestic and international visitors to witness the skies above the Taiwan Strait light up in stunning displays.

Beyond the fireworks, Penghu is fast emerging as one of Taiwan’s most captivating destinations, offering an experience that goes well beyond conventional beach holidays. Travellers can explore the archipelago’s marine landscapes through island-hopping boat rides that glide past quaint fishing villages, coral islets, and striking coastlines shaped by time. One of Penghu’s most remarkable features is its basalt landscapes—towering volcanic columns that have become a geological symbol of the islands.

With increasing awareness of Taiwan’s lesser-known destinations, the Taiwan Tourism Administration is making a concerted effort to bring places like Penghu into the spotlight. Indian travellers—especially those seeking unique, off-the-beaten-path experiences—are being encouraged to explore Penghu as a full-fledged destination.

As Taiwan continues to welcome the world back with open arms, Penghu is positioning itself as an ideal choice for FIT, luxury, and experiential Indian travellers. Tour operators are being urged to include this picturesque island in their custom-made itineraries to offer clients a more memorable taste of Taiwan.
