THOMAS COOK WITNESSES INCREASED DEMAND FOR SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Thomas Cook India has witnessed an impactful demand from Indian travellers keen on witnessing the upcoming Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2014 live. According to Shibani Phadkar, Senior Vice President - Products & Operations, Leisure Travel (Outbound), Thomas Cook (India), Sports Tourism, once considered a niche segment, is today witnessing impactful growth in the Indian market context. The glamour quotient and surrounding media blitz of the Singapore Grand Prix 2014 has been instrumental in fuelling demand, especially from travel-hungry aspirational Indian consumers.
“The profile of tourists keen on being a part of this mega sporting events are generally high-spenders and tend to stay longer compared to other traveller segments. Our sales teams have observed that this global sporting event has tremendous appeal, not merely for sport aficionados, but also for India’s emerging Gen Y, ad hoc groups of young corporate executives travelling along with friends and the discerning luxury traveller. Singapore, being a short haul destination, the event holds strong allure for MICE groups as well. Whilst major metros such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata have traditionally accounted for the bulk of our bookings, this year the Singapore Grand Prix has seen encouraging demand from mini-metros, also tier-II markets such as Bhopal, Chandigarh, Indore, Coimbatore and Hyderabad,” she added.
