Turkmenistan gearing up for tourism with the launch of new E-Visa system

This initiative is being established under amendments to Turkmenistan’s Migration Law, which were recently discussed by the national legislative assembly, the Mejlis. The law includes provisions allowing foreign nationals and stateless persons to apply for visas electronically.
This development also aligns with a wider regional trend in Central Asia, where countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan have already adopted electronic visa systems to facilitate smoother travel.
Turkmenistan has been known for its strict travel policies and complex visa requirements but is now working to modernise and streamline its entry process as part of broader efforts to boost tourism and connect with the global travel community.
This e-visa initiative is being established under amendments to Turkmenistan’s Migration Law, which were recently discussed by the national legislative assembly, the Mejlis. The law includes provisions allowing foreign nationals and stateless persons to apply for visas electronically, eliminating the need for formal invitation letters and lengthy approvals through diplomatic channels.
The introduction of the e-visa is expected to reduce bureaucratic barriers and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, ancient Silk Road sites, and unique desert landscapes to the international travellers.
