“This initiative is aligned with the state’s broader goal of achieving a one trillion dollar economy,” said Jaiveer Singh, Tourism and Culture Minister.

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has approved a development plan focused on promoting religious and cultural tourism in the state capital, Lucknow. As part of the initiative, ancient temples and riverfront areas along the Gomti will be restored and upgraded. A total of INR 9 crore has been sanctioned for ten separate projects; all aimed at improving facilities and drawing more visitors to the city’s spiritual and historical sites.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh shared the details, stating that the state government considers tourism a key component of economic development. He said that the city’s heritage temples, historical locations and riverbanks are part of a living cultural legacy, and their revitalisation will open new avenues for tourism.

Among the approved projects, INR 1 crore has been allocated each for the Sheetla Mata Temple in Kakori, Koneshwar Mahadev Temple in Chowk, the ancient Shiv Temple in Karheta (Ambedkar Nagar Ward), Kalika Devi Temple in Amlauli village, Shri Hanuman Temple in Athnaru (Sukhmadatt Nagar), and the Shri Mahadev Jalsai Nath Temple. Additionally, INR 50 lakh has been approved for the Shri Jwala Mata Temple in Barigwan, INR 1 crore for tourism development at Sanjhiya Ghat along the Gomti river, INR 1 crore for Shri Ram Janki Temple, and INR 50 lakh for the Ghatghata Baba Devsthan in Salehnagar village.

Key upgrades are expected to include lighting, sanitation, drinking water, pathways, and the development of tourist information centers.

“These developments will deepen people’s connection to heritage while encouraging more travel to the region,” Singh said. “They will also create new livelihood opportunities and give a boost to the local economy.”

Singh further stated, “This initiative is aligned with the state’s broader goal of achieving a one trillion dollar economy. Preserving and showcasing Lucknow’s religious and cultural legacy is part of a larger effort to position Uttar Pradesh on the global tourism map.”
