Vietjet Air hosts familiarisation trip for Indian media to Phuket
India stood out as Thailand’s leading tourism market last year, with arrivals soaring past the 2-million milestone. Powered by air connectivity, 342 weekly flights between the two nations as of June 2024, India has firmly cemented its position as a key driver of Thailand’s tourism growth.
Building on this momentum, Vietjet Air recently organised an exclusive familiarisation trip for Indian media representatives, following the launch of its direct Mumbai - Phuket flights on August 15. The initiative was designed to provide firsthand experience of Vietjet’s seamless services and showcase the diverse tourism offerings of Phuket, Thailand’s much-loved island destination.

Highlights of the trip included the world-renowned Phi Phi Islands, known for their pristine beaches and turquoise waters; a walking tour of Old Phuket Town, with its vibrant Sino-Portuguese architecture, cafés, and street art; and a visit to bustling local markets, giving participants a taste of authentic Thai flavours and lifestyle. The group also visited the iconic Big Buddha Temple, a serene landmark offering panoramic views of the island.
A special stop at the James Gallery offered participants an exclusive glimpse into Phuket’s traditional pearl and gemstone production, showcasing the island’s craftsmanship and heritage in jewellery making.
Food also played an important role in the experience, with the delegation sampling a wide variety of local Thai cuisines tailored for international visitors. For Indian travellers, Phuket offers plenty of comfort and familiarity as well, with numerous Indian restaurants across the island serving authentic dishes that cater to diverse tastes and preferences.
