Visa reforms spark 60% surge in travel interest from India to Philippines: Booking.com

Exclusive data shared with T3 reveals that Manila, El Nido, and Cebu City have emerged as the top three most searched destinations in the Philippines among Indian travellers—reflecting a sharp uptick in interest following the recent rollout of dual visa-free entry options for Indian nationals. Under the new policy, travellers can choose between a 14-day or a 30-day visa-free stay, easing access and fuelling fresh momentum for outbound travel from India to the archipelago.

The Philippines is experiencing a remarkable spike in travel interest from Indian tourists following the recent relaxation of visa norms. According to Booking.com, there has been a 60% surge in travel searches from India between June and August 2025 compared to the same period last year. This increase coincides with the Philippines' revised visa-free entry rules for Indian nationals, which came into effect in May 2025.

Sharing the information beyond figures, Santosh Kumar, Country Manager for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia at Booking.com said that the simplified visa processes, coupled with the growing desire for experiential travel, are encouraging Indians to explore culturally rich international destinations and Philippines now is one of them. As per data shared exclusively with T3, the top three most searched destinations in the Philippines by Indian travellers are Manila, El Nido, and Cebu City.

“Each destination offering something unique, from dynamic and vibrant culture to pristine beaches and a blend of island charm and heritage, presents the perfect escape for Indian travellers looking to make the most of their monsoon break this year, with a balance of discovery and downtime,” added Kumar.

IATO’s President, Ravi Gosain in recent conversation with T3 also shared these visa waiver initiatives, especially at the time of current geopolitical situations affecting travel dynamics, offer a significant advantage for travellers. “It's not just about saving money—it's also about avoiding lengthy and complex procedures. So naturally, destinations that ease entry requirements tend to attract more attention. I believe the Philippines will benefit from this move and see a rise in Indian tourist interest. With destinations like Turkey and Azerbaijan facing some restrictions for Indian travellers, and Vietnam already explored by many, the Philippines presents itself as a fresh and appealing alternative. I foresee a strong potential for increased Indian footfall.”

Notably, the new visa policy announced by the Philippines Embassy offers two distinct visa-free entry options for Indian nationals. Under the new framework, Indian travellers can now opt for either a 14-day visa-free entry to the Philippines or the same for 30 days. To qualify, visitors must be travelling solely for tourism purposes and hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay. Travellers are also required to provide proof of confirmed accommodation, such as hotel bookings, demonstrate financial stability through bank statements or an employment certificate, and possess a confirmed return or onward travel ticket. Importantly, applicants must not have any negative immigration history with the Philippines. This visa-free stay is strictly non-extendable and cannot be converted into another visa category, making it suitable for short vacations or spontaneous travel plans.

In addition to this, Indian passport holders who possess valid visas or permanent residency in countries such as Australia, Japan, the United States, Canada, Schengen countries, Singapore, and the United Kingdom—collectively referred to as the AJACSSUK group—are eligible for a 30-day visa-free stay in the Philippines. This provision caters to Indian travellers with a strong international travel history and reflects the Philippines' intent to deepen regional cooperation and streamline inbound travel from key markets.

Also, the Indian travellers who do not qualify for the visa-free entry schemes can still visit the Philippines by applying through the official e-visa portal. The 9(a) Temporary Visitor Visa remains available and permits a single-entry stay of up to 30 days.

These reforms are part of the Philippine government’s broader strategy to revitalise tourism and strengthen bilateral ties with India which is one of its most promising source markets. The move was confirmed by the Embassy of the Philippines in New Delhi this month.
