Visit Malaysia 2026 officially launched with nationwide celebrations

Through the VM2026 campaign, Malaysia aims to attract 43 million international visitors in 2026, aligning with ongoing efforts to strengthen the tourism sector as a key driver of the nation’s economic growth.

Tourism Malaysia ushered in the New Year with a nationwide celebration across major international gateways and transportation hubs to welcome international visitors to Malaysia, marking the official launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.

YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, joined the primary reception at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), one of the primary venues for this significant opening-day initiative. Simultaneously, welcoming ceremonies were also held at 55 key entry points and strategic locations across all 13 states, signalling a unified start to the nation’s premier tourism campaign.

“VM2026 is not merely a tourism campaign; it is a nationwide movement that reflects our unity, harmony, warmth, and cultural diversity. By welcoming travellers on the first day of the year, we are highlighting Malaysia’s commitment to delivering an inclusive, creative and hospitable tourism experience throughout 2026,” said the Minister.

The nationwide welcome celebrations were made possible through close collaboration with state governments, airlines, airport authorities, tourism industry players and strategic partners. Support included logistical assistance, venue preparations and sponsorships from corporate partners, including BOH, D&D Beauty house Kuala Lumpur, DSR Taiko Berhad, Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL), Gamuda Land, Grab Malaysia, Guardian, JINS Health Group, Ladang Sari International, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), MAMEE, MITEC, Oriental Coffee, ParagonCorp MY, Photobook Charm, Seri Spa, Syarikat Permainan Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Trans Eco-Farm, etc.

As part of the VM2026 campaign, Malaysia will roll out a year-long calendar of more than 300 events highlighting the nation’s multicultural identity, artistic heritage and festive traditions. Key highlights include the VM2026 Chinese New Year Festival, VM2026 Aidilfitri Festival, VM2026 Deepavali Festival, and VM2026 Christmas Fest, alongside iconic cultural celebrations such as the Tadau Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak Festivals. These curated events offer immersive experiences ranging from cultural parades and culinary showcases to traditional performances, spiritual observances and community-led festivities throughout the year.

Leveraging Malaysia’s immense potential as a world-class tourist destination, VM2026 is expected to drive a surge in visitor arrivals while generating employment, enhancing the nation’s global image, and delivering tangible economic benefits to local communities. The campaign will also deepen cultural appreciation and stimulate growth across various sectors beyond tourism, including hospitality, transportation, retail and the gastronomy industry.
