WEST BENGAL TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION AT TRAVEL MARTS

Under the new regime, the West Bengal Govt. has taken several initiatives to participate in major travel and tourism festivals across India. Recognising that the tourism industry contributes significantly to the foreign exchange earnings, this sector has become an area of much importance for the state’s tourism department.

“In view of this changing perspective and thriving potentialities, the West Bengal Govt. is keen to attend in various travel and tourism shows. This Department has confirmed participation in tourism fairs at Surat, Pune, Hyderabad, Kochi and Ahmadabad, among others, in addition to metro cities, to ensure better inbound business,” said Amlan Jyoti Saha, Joint Director, WB Tourism Corporation.

West Bengal Tourism will also be participating in travel festivals in B Categories cities such as Lucknow, Chandigarh, Nagpur, Vizag and Coimbatore to reach out to the target audience in a result oriented way. The road show conducted recently was aimed at being a forum for capitalising opportunities to ensure substantial increase of tourist inflow in West Bengal by involving enthused tour operators whose enterprising initiatives will help to reach the goal targeted by the West Bengal Tourism Department.

There are suggestions for improvement of publicity and promotional measures are welcomed by the department. With a perceptible increase in budgetary allocations, particularly in the publicity sector, West Bengal Tourism is making its presence felt in the e-media space, digital displays, bill boards, hoardings, FM Radio, TV Channels, both domestic and international magazines, railway tickets, electricity bills, taxi tops etc., in a bid to reach out to the masses.
