WEST BENGAL TOURISM TO STEP UP EFFORTS

Under it’s new regime, West Bengal Govt. has taken several initiatives to participate in all major travel and tourism festivals spanning across India consequent upon the realisation with the growing trend of tourism in the domestic market would ensure a prosperous economy. The Department has confirmed participation in tourism fairs at Surat, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi, among others, in addition to the metro cities, for ensuring better business to cater inbound travel market. 

West Bengal Tourism will also be participating in travel festivals in B Categories cities such as Lucknow, Chandigarh, Nagpur, Vizag, Coimbatore to reach out to the target audience in a result oriented way.

With a perceptible increase of budgetary allocations, particularly in the publicity sector, West Bengal Tourism is making its presence felt in the e-media publication, digital display, bill boards, hoarding, FM Radio, TV Channels, both domestic and international magazines, railway tickets, electricity bills, taxi tops and so on, to reach out to the masses to depict the bounties and resourcefulness of West Bengal mingled with cultural and historic diversity. 

Experiential tourism has been given one of the major thrust areas to attract tourists in West Bengal. Customised package are also being developed. The need of the hour is to upgrade, innovate, promote and create an enabling atmosphere to attract tourists from all parts of the globe.        

West Bengal Tourism will also focus on its festivals and religious heritage. With West Bengal blessed with landmark pilgrimage sites and colorful festivals, the Department is attempting to re-emphasise West Bengal and Kolkata as a destination made famous for it’s cultural and religious heritage. The sites of Gangasagar, Dakshineswar and Kalighat, among many other important sites of religious importance, shall be a part of the marketing plan to showcase West Bengal.

Major festivals such as Durga Puja will create added value to the marketing effort of the department. With the advent of a strong middle class, ‘West Bengal’ is perceived as an excellent ‘Value for Money’ destination and we will continue to reinforce this important part of the travel experience.
