As per the recent official sources, it has been confirmed that South Africa’s Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has dissolved the South African Tourism (SA Tourism) Board with immediate effect, citing serious governance failures and the board’s unlawful conduct at a recent special meeting.
The decision follows the board’s special meeting on August 1, 2025, at which the suspension of CEO Nombulelo Guliwe was resolved. Legal advice obtained by the Minister concluded that the meeting—and the resolution passed—was unlawful, as the board lacked a chairperson at the time (following Professor Gregory Davids’s resignation on July 31) and only a duly appointed chairperson is authorized to convene such proceedings under the Tourism Act.
Acting under Section 16 of the Tourism Act No. 3 of 2014 and as per a statement issued by ministry of tourism, Minister de Lille confirmed that the board members have been removed, and the board dissolved. This action ensures compliance with statutory governance frameworks designed to uphold legality and accountability, an official report states.
